RotaStar

RotaStar is a software package designed specifically for the production and management of anaesthetic department rotas.

It is the result of a collaboration between anaesthetists and Xentec Ltd, a company specialising in highly specific IT solutions in the healthcare field.

RotaStar has, from the outset, been designed by anaesthetists for anaesthetists. It is not a generic shift management programme intended for use in a wide range of environments.

The design of RotaStar stems from an in-depth analysis of every step involved in the production of weekly anaesthetic rotas. Through this concept, the system brings the ideal combination of automation and computer assistance to a highly complex process of data transfer and clinical judgement that has largely defied computerisation until now.

RotaStar has been built using the principle of intuitive operability throughout. The user interface is a series of screens which include all rota-critical areas such as leave and on-call. These are all linked to the master screen for final rota production and management. Built-in flexibility ensures that RotaStar is easily configurable to the needs of individual anaesthetic departments.

RotaStar is a powerful tool for the production and management of weekly anaesthetic rotas, making the process more effective and efficient. In addition, due to design features that enable the information contained within a rota to be extracted in different forms, RotaStar produces rota-based reports that are in themselves powerful tools for training, departmental planning, interaction with medical managers and audit.
